Making it even more desirable is a powerful V6, real 4-wheel drive with low gearing and a very affordable base price. Suzuki's Grand Vitara, that donates its platform to the XL-7, is one of the only vehicles in the compact SUV class with a V6 available. The little sport utility moves along at a brisk pace thanks to 165-hp and 162 lb-ft of torque, more than enough for pulling small loads or traversing treacherous trails. A similar V6 is standard in the XL-7, but with increased displacement from 2.5 to 2.7-L and an additional 18-hp for a maximum of 183. This is also up from last year's XL-7 by 13-hp, a significant improvement from 170. Torque also increases by 18 lb-ft over the Grand Vitara, and 2 lb-ft over last year's XL-7.
