We don't talk much about them, yet they are indispensable, whatever the series or the track that hosts the competition, race or rally. I'm talking here about the hundreds of volunteers who work around a circuit: signallers, firemen, communication representatives, or any other function necessary to ensure the success and security of an on-track event.

  • At the hairpin's exit, the "meatball" attendants have just received their lunch. Fifteen little minutes of rest for this signalling team that are part of the starting-line group.
  • Serge Bernier, Denis Laferrière, Michel Flageole and Claude Laferrière. These four combine over 100 years of experience as Grand Prix of Canada volunteers.
  • The starting-line group is ready at the base of the catwalk at 6:30 am, before a long day's work ahead.
  • For the first time in the history of the Grand Prix of Canada, three generations of volunteers worked in the starting-line group: Claude, Denis and Marie-Noëlle Laferrière. To salute the occasion, all the members of the group signed a chequered flag.
