Daewoo cars have surprised me since their very early introduction. But the reworked Nubira is a fine example of how this automaker works. The only drawbacks that might scare customers off would be the future of the company. Too many people have read that Daewoo was in a financial bind. It is true, but mostly for the whole company itself including its construction, its maritime and other divisions. As far as the car division is concerned, rumors are getting more serious that GM could buy it out (though you have probably read in the papers that Korean Daewoo employees went on strike when they heard «their» company could be sold to foreign interests). I think GM could profit from Daewoo?s great experience with smaller cars and from its advantageous Asian (and international) position.
Right now, Daewoo dealers are offering the Nubira at a very interesting price (a fully loaded SX sedan is $16 700 in the May papers) with a 5 year or 100 000 km warranty. The car also comes with a 24-hour road service for the first three years. So, with such a great performing car at such a reasonable price and such a great warranty and road service, I can only recommend possible customer to have a closer look at the Nubira. It might be the best surprise in the automotive world yet!
