Speaking of navigators, 'slow down' might be the words expressed from your significant other as the 247 hp 2.3-liter, 5-cylinder high-pressure turbocharged and intercooled engine shoots the V70 T5 forward with a vengeance - arriving at 100 km/h in just over six seconds. If stunning acceleration isn't an important factor in your next vehicle purchase the less expensive V70 2.4T might do the trick. Its low pressure turbocharged and intercooled 5-cylinder is rated at a healthy 197 horsepower and 210 lb ft of torque, making it easily capable of highway passing maneuvers. Volvo's 5-speed automatic transmission with manual mode is works extremely well, with the gears actuated by pushing the shift lever forward and back for up and down shifts respectively.

All this power is kept in check via an ABS braking system with Electronic Brake Distribution (EBD) bringing the 1,528 kg (3,368 lb) wagon to a halt in just over 36.6 meters (120 feet). Its 12" ventilated front discs and 11.3" rears use a diagonal split configuration that doesn't need all circuits working to operate effectively.

A firm yet compliant anti-dive and anti-lift suspension system assists in accident avoidance too, while simultaneously increasing the fun factor. MacPherson struts in the front and a multi-link setup in the rear are mated to impressively styled 17" by 7.5" alloy wheels shod with 235/45/17 low-profile tires. The Dynamic Stability Traction Control system (DSTC) on the T5 improves on the 2.4Ts STC (which uses sensors of the ABS system to monitor wheel spin) by incorporating wheel spin data with driver steering input and the course of the vehicle. DSTC will activate the brakes at an individual wheel(s) to assist the car in maintaining the drivers intended direction. The overall package inspires confidence.
