The Limited Edition includes leather seating surfaces with what Chrysler calls 'Preferred Suede' inserts. The easy to clean suede-like material looks rich while providing excellent posterior grip during aggressive cornering. Other Limited features are 16" chrome alloy wheels, driver's seat manual lumbar support and power height adjustment, plus a leather wrapped steering wheel and shift knob.

As if the standard cars retro-chic styling isn't enough, Chrysler introduced the trés cool Woodie edition and hotrod inspired flame décor package earlier this year. As 'hip' as these options are to PT Cruiser fans, 2003 promises even more excitement - power! Next year's 215-hp PT Turbo should quell critics who say the current 150-hp engine lacks forward thrust. "Just two years ago, we launched the Chrysler PT Cruiser and created a new category of transportation," said Larry Lyons, Vice President - Small Vehicle Product Team Engineering. "Now, we're giving that whole new category a boost - literally." The increase in horsepower is only half the story, as maximum torque is now up from the normally aspirated engine's 162 lb-ft to a phenomenal 245 lb-ft! Forget about the flaming hood decal, the Turbo should be capable of lighting real flames under its front tires. A heavy-duty 5-speed manual transmission will be standard equipment.

That said, what about the current cars performance? What most people don't realize is that the PT isn't just a styling statement. Along with the great price and real-world practicality it's a fairly good performer even in standard trim. The 150-hp engine would have been considered big power a few years back, especially considering the PT's bantam 1,409 kg (3,107 lb) curb weight. Even with the optional automatic transmission, power comes on quickly making most passing procedures problem free. The standard cue ball adorned 5-speed only improves acceleration.
