The Subaru WRX easily plays the double role of a small manageable sedan and that of a sporty car. But we have to admit that the all-wheel system and the presence of a turbocharger (that incites us to "play" with the car) do not help fuel economy. My tests averaged some 14.4L/100 km (around 20 mpg), which is not common to a traditional four-cylinder engine. However, I must admit that I did not drive the car like a little old lady and that explains the "deceiving" fuel numbers. If driven more "reasonably", I think such a car should yield a 12L/100 km (some 24 mpg) consumption. That should be the price to pay for such a performing and impressive car...but if you want spirited driving, don't go for the automatic transmission!
