Enter the SVT Mustang Cobra, a 390-hp skunk works special. What, say again? You heard me right. Press the accelerator pedal and hold onto anything you can. Your butt will be indelibly stamped into the leather bucket seats as the SVT Cobra's Eaton supercharger whines in harmony with all eight cylinders and rockets you past 100 km/h (62 mph) in just under 5 seconds. Whew! Exhilarating is an understatement. It takes only 11.1 seconds to hit 160 km/h (100 mph) and tops out at a speed limited 250 km/h (155 mph) - but keep in mind 2000's slightly less powerful Cobra R was capable of 274 km/h (170 mph) with no limiter. That's fast! The 6-speed manual shifts pretty well too. It's no Acura NSX gearbox, but its positive intervals are easy to find and click into place without any need to force.

But what about handling? After all, tackling corners has never been a Mustang high note. Everyone knows its basic platform started life way back in the late 70's. Sure subtle updates have improved its rigidity while tuning tweaks here and there have made it livable unless pressed beyond its capabilities, but that said there's a narrow gap between its straight line acceleration and power-sliding oversteer.
