This data includes the rate of rotation and vertical position of individual wheels, steering inputs, yaw angle, throttle and brake pedal position and engagement of the AWD system. Next the signals are transmitted to the Four-C control module that computes rates of pitch, roll and yaw and adjusts shock valve damping to maintain a horizontal road position. This technology comes via a long-term collaboration with Öhlins Racing AB, one of the world's foremost developers of high-tech shock absorbers, and the shock absorber manufacturer Monroe.

The go-fast Volvo will receive equal attention to braking power, with 4-piston aluminum Brembo brake calipers on 330 mm discs, making it capable of bring the S60R down to a halt from 100 km/h in an expected 36 meters (118 feet).

As if the performance quotient wasn't enough, Volvo will enhance this S60 variant with a modified front fascia, including larger air intakes and spoiler, necessary for cooling the tweaked engine and twin intercoolers. Its black 'egg crate' grille gets matte silver edging, a color theme that continues through to the Bi-Xenon headlight surrounds. Available 17 and 18-inch five-spoke alloy wheels receive a subtle 'R' logo at center. They'll be shod with Pirelli's P-Zero Rosso 235/45 or 235/40 tires.

"There is nothing which doesn't fulfill a function, no unnecessary design clutter," stated Peter Horbury, long time head of Volvo design and Executive Director of Design, Ford Premier Automotive Group (PAG). With regards to the S60R's rear spoiler, "Some people might think that it's rather too discreet, but its task is to reduce the rear lifting forces by 20 percent - and it does precisely that."

On the inside, four clear blue, silver-framed gauges make up the instrument panel, easily legible through a 3-spoke leather-wrapped steering wheel. Leather accents are stitched in blue, reflecting the color scheme of the instruments. Speaking of color schemes, over time, the optional sport seat's natural leather - untreated aniline leather - takes on a completely individual patina.
