On the outside, Honda has kept changes to a minimum. Most obvious is the widened front grille, with two solid corner-mounted bars. After this, the differences become so minute that either you'd have to know the S2000 like the back of your hand, or have already been schooled on the actual changes. Projection beam headlamps rest under sharky, clear lens covers, and in back, LED taillights replace conventional bulbs. As mentioned, the roadster now features 17 inch alloy wheels, which bear an uncanny resemblance to those fitted to the Mugen-tuned S2000 (Mugen is an aftermarket tuning company that specializes in Hondas). The final touch to the tail end are two fat, chromed oval exhaust tips, which peek out under the redesigned rear fascia.

Inside, the story is more or less repeated from the previous S2000; tight, cozy and snug. Though the seats and controls are carried over without modification, the two-seater is now slightly roomier. Redesigned door panels, deeply concave in shape, increase the car's shoulder room. Netted pockets along the transmission tunnel allow for easy-access knick-knack storage, i.e. cell phones and road maps.

Interestingly enough, the new S2000 will appear in North America first, before going on sale in Europe and Asia. (Photo: Honda)

The S2000s excellent driving position, big red starter button, grippy three-spoke steering wheel and aluminum-knobbed short throw shifter entice the driver with a racecar-like atmosphere. Truly there isn't anything like it, a one of a kind road racer that has the knack of getting under a person's skin. For some the itch is alluring, and for others it has been an annoyance. While few cars have created such bipolar reactions from those fortunate enough to drive it, the new model should go a long way to addressing the naysayers.

Despite being engineered and built in Japan, the updated S2000 will appear in North America first, before going on sale in Europe and Asia.
