Ford will probably continue its limited-edition 'Living Legends' Mustangs, such as last year's Bullitt Mustang and the current Mach 1 - a Boss 302 version should launch for 2004 just prior to the new model being released. As well, I wouldn't be surprised if a more powerful Cobra came to fruition within a year of the new Mustang hitting the streets - again, with Carroll Shelby's name attached. On the other end of the power spectrum Ford is planning special versions of the base V6 model, which is supposed to incorporate a premium look distinct from its sporting V8 brother. The continuation of its special versions will limit the need for Ford designers to continually facelift the car before major design change intervals, a costly practice that Ford should best do away with.
When the new Mustang arrives in Ford showrooms in the fall of 2004, a general excitement should infuse those that grew up loving the first through fourth generation cars. What was lost with the anemic Mustang II, should by all accounts, rumor or otherwise, return with the 2005 model. Here's to Ford getting it right.
