The Jeep features standard dual front air bags, optional side curtain air bags, ABS brakes, electronic brake force distribution, stability control and a tire pressure monitor. The NHTSA (National Highway Traffic Safety Administration) has not yet crash tested the Jeep. The IIHS (Insurance Institute for Highway Safety) has not yet crash tested the Grand Cherokee either.

Conclusion

At a shade over $55,000, one would expect nearly all the latest gadgets, especially in a world renowned Trail Rated Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited with the Hemi V8. Well, guess what? It does not have high intensity discharge headlights, only the driver-side window has the auto down function and a fixed whip antenna. These are just a few details that demonstrate the lack of real value put into making this vehicle. The high sticker price is not justified as it does not reflect the overall quality of this product. I have a tough time when I hear that I have to pay such a high price "because it is a Grand Cherokee".

The Grand Cherokee reminded me more of my old 1988 Oldsmobile Custom Cruiser than a rough and tumble truck. The drive is very insulated and quiet. A truck, to me, will always be a tool, a vehicle with which something is accomplished. The Jeep has become way too posh in this latest version. I cannot say that I blame DaimlerChrysler; they are only acquiescing to consumers' demands.

Reliability, as I have noted, was terrible during the first generation. The last generation was much improved in comparison and hopefully, for those that want to spend over $5,000 in gas a year, the new one will stay away from dealerships for a long time.

Sidenote:
And by the way, if you have seen the video related to both trucks, I meant to say midsize at the beginning, not compact. My mistake...

Good stuff:

Quadra-Drive II

Not so good stuff:
Enormous fuel consumption
Overly soft ride
Tight quarters
