Poorly inspired aesthetically, the new 2006 Impala and Monte Carlo are still distinguishable from the older models on more than one level. As well as receiving freshened look, the cabin is warmer, modern looking and equipped with many new safety features. Among them, we find ABS breaks and traction control, the new generation OnStar system and side air bags. Available in four trim levels (LS, LT, LTZ, SS), the Impala, like the Monte Carlo, is offered with a choice of three engines. The first is a 210 hp 3.5L V6. The second is a 240 hp 3.9L V6 and the last is the 5.3L V8 equipped with Displacement on Demand for the SS version only.

Auto123.com's impressions:
Like the new Pontiac Grand Prix GXP, this Chevy duo gets a V8 for the first time with a FWD set-up. Police forces will be very happy about this... I don't know about the rest of us though. Don't look too closely at these cars, as you might be disappointed to see that they are not all new. They are merely recharged.
