The car for every job
Conclusion

The Impala finds itself in the crossfire of such cars as the Toyota Camry and the Dodge Charger. The Impala does not have the long history of dependability of the Camry or the striking good looks of the Charger. It does however fare quite well when it comes to ownership costs and average to slightly better than average reliability. Its new styling is pleasant and civilised and some may even find the car likeable but it is certainly not a Charger.

It is difficult to fault the car as a whole, given the very reasonable asking price and its relatively high level of standard equipment. I still wonder though, why General Motors will not offer a better powertrain warranty on their cars. To me, this is an important buying argument.

Good stuff:

Good ride
Comfortable interior

Not so good stuff:
Transmission missing 1 gear
Short warranty

Competitors:
Toyota Avalon
Chrysler 300 / Dodge Charger
Hyundai Azera
Ford Grand Marquis
Ford Five Hundred
