Surprising towing capacity
My tester came with a Class II Trailer Tow Package ($500), which includes a 68-amp heavy-duty battery, a Class II receiver hitch, a wiring harness with 4-pin connector, an engine oil cooler, upgraded cooling fans and a larger radiator. I had the opportunity to test the towing capacity of the vehicle in normal use. I attached the Edge to a twin-axle trailer carrying a compact car, which combined for a total weight of 1,520 kg -- perfect for the challenge I had in mind.

The 3.5L V6 is mated to a well-designed 6-speed automatic transmission.

The Edge was up to the task. It moved around with surprising ease and even proved to be more stable in corners or during braking maneuvers than some competitors equipped with a Class III trailer hitch and capable of towing 2,250 kilos. It's the perfect vehicle for owners wishing to comfortably tow a boat or a small camping trailer.

In my opinion, the all-new Ford Edge will be a hit thanks to a host of well-designed features, good overall quality and, of course, killer looks.
