Mr. Shelby joined forces with Ford's SVT group to make sure the car was going to be able to sustain the extra power and to make sure that the car was worthy of his name. They began by throwing out the tiny 4.6L V8 and replacing it with a 32 valve 5.4L V8 sporting a supercharger. The result is 475 hp and 475 lb/ft of torque.
Weight gain on the Convertible was kept to a minimal 125 lbs over the GT500 Coupe. This way, suspension upgrades and modifications were avoided so handling characteristics resembles those of the GT500 Coupe.
19" alloy wheels and 4-wheel vented disc brakes are standard. Price should be around the low US$40,000.
