Steve Laughman is in an interesting situation. A partner at the Deloitte & Touche accounting firm, he was recently responsible for counting ballots collected from 49 international automotive journalists carrying their votes on the 2007 Car and Truck of the year.

Trouble is, only the finalists have been announced so far, and although Laughman knows the winners they will not be named until the North American International Autoshow next month. One can only speculate on the countless ways people will try to weasel the names out of him.

The award decided upon by this group is unique because it is comprised of journalists from various publications across Canada and the USA, including Car and Driver, the Toronto Star, Auto Week and Edmunds.com. The award is intended to recognize the most outstanding vehicles for the 2007 model year based on a number of factors, the most notable being that candidates have to be an all-new model or significantly changed from previous years.

This year, the Honda Fit, Saturn Aura and Toyota Camry made it to the finals in the car category, with the Mazda CX7, Ford Edge and Chevrolet Silverado voted to the finalists list for trucks.

Last year, Honda won the award in both the Car and Truck categories, with the Civic and Ridgeline taking top place, respectively.
