Solid handling
Driving a 128i is pretty much like driving any other BMW, only in a smaller package. You benefit from the same driving dynamics, not to mention a forgiving yet not overly intrusive Dynamic Stability Control system. The powerful brakes deliver safe, linear stops.
The 128i comes standard with 17-inch wheels and you'd be wise to stick with them. They're more than up to the task while providing decent levels of ride comfort, even on bumpy roads. I've spent a full day (600+ km) behind the wheel of this car and I never got tired of driving, let alone bored.
Considering the horrendous conditions of our winter-ravaged Canadian roads (particularly in Quebec), I preferred the 128i over the 135i given how relatively smooth it is. Actually, its only weakness on the road is probably the amount of body roll through successions of sharp corners. Rest assured, driver and passenger comfort is never affected.
At last, an affordable BMW
How can you not like the 128i's driving experience, quality and comfort, especially at $33,900? Now that's what I call an affordable, attractive sports car. With all the attributes to please, the new 1-Series is yet another iteration of BMW's "Ultimate Driving Machine" mantra.
