Rustic yet practical!
In this context, where the quality of the ride and the elegance of the passenger compartment are not a priority, the plainness of a B4000 is acceptable. The driving position, then, with legs extended like the Toyota 4Runner and reminiscent of vehicles from the 1970's such as the old Ford Courrier, won't be an issue.

The Mazda B4000 SE's 4-litre, 207-hp V6 can tow up to 5,600 lbs.

An effort at modernity
To offset the simplicity of its small truck, Mazda has regularly touched it up. For example, the central dashboard panel has been graced with carbon fibre-like trim and the sound system sports an input jack for iPods and such. Who would have thought, back in 1994?

Apart from that, this truck is still the old B-Series we've come to know. The line includes two types of bodies (regular and extended cab) and three engines. The only model equipped with the 4-cylinder engine has a three-seat cab and two-wheel drive. The extended-cab, two- and four-wheel-drive models are powered by V6 engines.

The extended cab can accommodate four to five people depending on your preferred configuration. If you opt for the SE Plus package (+ $2,015) on the B4000 SE, the three-person bench with asymmetrical seat backs (60/40) can be replaced by two bucket seats that are considerably more comfortable.

As for the rear jump seats, they're more suited to children than average-sized adults, especially when tall people are sitting in front.

The SE Plus package also includes power exterior mirrors, power windows, a remote keyless entry system, Sirius satellite radio, a tilting steering wheel and cruise control (excellent for optimizing fuel efficiency).

Rear-hinged and unhinged
The extended cab includes four doors, two of which are rear-hinged. They create a wide opening and make it easy to climb into the truck and load cargo in the back when the jump seats aren't in use.

The rear-hinged doors create a wide opening.
