For short drives, the firm seats are a definite plus; however, over long distances, they prove less accommodating. Having said that, the driving position is never a problem with the many seating adjustments available. Much like the seats, the ride is firm and more or less comfortable, especially on winter-ravaged Canadian roads. I even heard some unpleasant suspension noise from time to time. Truth be told, it's probably the only noise you'll ever hear inside the CX-7; soundproofing is excellent and no hissing is perceived.

The number and size of the storage compartments, not to mention the vast cargo area, makes the interior highly convenient and versatile.

About the only flaw in the CX-7 design is the sloping roofline; you better watch out if you don't want to hit your head. Furthermore, when the front seats are set as far back as possible, the rear quarters become pretty tight; only children or small-size adults will feel at ease. Zoom-zoom? I wouldn't know!
While the CX-7 is a lot similar to the RX-8 in terms of styling, it certainly does not deliver the same level of performance. Under acceleration, this crossover is no sports car, so don't expect too much of it. The lack of power makes the engine run out of breath as soon as you try to push it. How disappointing from a 244-hp turbo four! The transmission is a bit jerky, which also affects the driving experience. Fuel economy is decent at 12.7 L/100 km, although the CX-7 requires premium gas.

The steering lives up to the brand's reputation, which means that it's slightly above average. Because the suspension has been tuned with road-holding capacity in mind, it seems as though every bump and pothole in the road resonates all the way to the passengers. Braking distances are reasonable for this type of vehicle. And while the CX-7 delivers nimble handling, it's still a big machine (the soft curves of the body can be misleading).
