Built at Nissan's engine plant in Decherd, Tennessee, it's the same powertrain that you'll find under the hood of the Titan full-size pickup. Almost 90 percent of the impressive torque is available under 2,500 rpm -- perfect for hauling, towing or low-speed off-roading.
Advanced engine components and systems worth mentioning include an aluminum engine block with cast-iron cylinder liners, a forged crankshaft, microfinishing on the double overhead camshaft, molybdenum-coated pistons, Continuously Variable Valve Timing Control (CVVTCS) and electronic drive-by-wire throttle.
A 5-speed automatic transmission with Tow/Haul mode comes standard with the Nissan Armada. It uses an exclusive gear set that was specially tuned for high-torque conditions as well as a torque converter designed to improve fuel economy.
The advanced powertrain management program enhances gear shift quality. As for said Tow/Haul mode, it alters gear mapping and shift points to suit the task at hand.
The standard Towing Package includes a shorter axle ratio, a transmission temperature gauge, a trailer hitch, a high-flow radiator, a 7-pin wiring connector and trailer brake wiring harness, a high-capacity battery and an auto-levelling rear suspension.
The Armada's off-road capabilities are equally impressive thanks to an all-mode 4WD system with 2-speed transfer case. Derived from the world-class Nissan Skyline GT-R sports coupe's all-wheel drive system, this 4x4 technology automatically adjusts the amount of power distributed to each wheel (up to 50 percent to the front wheels) depending on road conditions for improved control, cornering grip and fuel economy.
The ABS brakes are tuned for off-road driving, so they deliver confident stops on loose ground. The Armada also features a generous ground clearance of 270 mm (10.6 inches).
While the Armada is geared to handle some of the toughest duties, it's also very much at ease dealing with more trivial chores, day in, day out. In fact, it remains comfortable and classy while doing so. The double-wishbone independent front suspension with coil-over springs and stabilizer bar teams up with a highly responsive double-wishbone independent rear suspension.
