My god, what have they done to you?
In comparison, here's what you could also look at:

Chevrolet Cobalt LT 1SA with Wheel Package, $18,840
Ford Focus SE with heated seats and ABS, $18,404
Honda Civic DX-G, $19,480
Hyundai Elantra GL, $18,095
Mazda3 GX with Power Package and A/C, $19,040
Mitsubishi Lancer ES, $19,698
Nissan Sentra 2.0 S, $19,723
Pontiac G5 SE 1SA with Wheel Package, $19,260
Suzuki SX4 Sport, $18,995
Toyota Corolla CE 20th Anniversary Edition, $18,855

The best deal is the basic version without options.

When I look at this list, I realize that the grey-haired City Jetta isn't quite the bargain it's supposed to be. And among the sedans mentioned above, some are brand-new and constitute solid choices. Still, the City is much more affordable than the regular Jetta, which starts at $23,475.

Conclusion
I think the City Jetta is not a bad car at all, but in my opinion, the cosmetic changes spoiled the look of it. And let's face it: it's a car that dates back to 1999, which is an eternity in car years.

VW lovers who just couldn't afford one can now purchase a City Golf or Jetta at a reasonable price, and I'm pretty sure they'll be happy with one of these models. But for the price, the City Jetta just can't match the big guns in the compact sedan category.

Affordable (for a VW)
Attractive interior materials
Capable sound system

Unconvincing facelift
Engine lacks refinement

Not cheaper then other compact sedans
