Lincoln promises that trips to the gas station will be far between one another, as the MKS powerplants have been extensively tuned to help owners save fuel. The standard engine is a 3.7 litre derivative of the award-winning 3.5 litre DURATEC mill found in several current models. The increase in displacement bumps power modestly to 270 horsepower, though it packs more torque for performance. Chief engineer Michael Celentino explains. "This engine is tuned to maximize the increased torque to improve performance where it's needed most - standing acceleration and passing".
All wheel drive is available alongside the standard six-speed automatic gearbox for sure-footed traction in any weather, and an enhancement in dry-pavement performance.
For even more jam, a turbo, direct-injected V6 will be available less than a year after MKS's launch. The engine is said to offer V8 power and V6 fuel efficiency while making the MKS the most powerful and fuel efficient AWD car on the market. Numbers are yet to be released, but the MKR concept from earlier this year used a "Twin-Force" twin-turbo engine which generated 415 horsepower.
Interested buyers can pre-order their MKS now from Lincoln's website.
