Bottom line: if you're a couple planning a romantic escapade under the sun, you'd be wise to bring only a bathing suit and toothbrush!

That didn't stop the folks at Volkswagen from incorporating a load-through behind the rear center armrest. That means you can store long items in the car, like skis. After all, the Eos does not fear winter.

A few irritants
The delta-shaped profile of the Eos, with a beltline that rises toward the back, obviously reduces rearward visibility -- as is the case with most vehicles that follow this highly-trendy design feature. The ultra-small rear window and massive rear headrests make matters even worse. Needless to say parking maneuvers become a nightmare. At least, the short turning radius is your friend here...

The Eos is definitely no slouch thanks to a 4-cylinder turbocharged engine allowing 0-100 accelerations in less than 7 seconds.

No problem, however, when going forward. The Eos is definitely no slouch thanks to a 4-cylinder turbocharged engine allowing 0-100 accelerations in less than 7 seconds. That sure is fast enough to make a mess of your hair, but expect to feel a few hiccups in the process as the action of the turbo is unsuitably matched to the 6-speed automatic Direct Shift Gearbox with Tiptronic and sport mode.

The sudden intervention of the turbo causes some irritating jolts that are emphasized by the amount of torque steer and the slow execution of the DSG gearbox in auto mode. I had the same complaint about the VW Tiguan using the same exact powertrain. With the Tiptronic mode, however, you can manage to smooth things out a little. Of course, the standard 6-speed manual transmission remains the weapon of choice.

One aspect that impressed me was the structural rigidity of the unibody chassis. I know, I know, this is no 3-Series Cabriolet, but the Eos is way more rigid than a G6 or Mustang.

Driving enthusiasts will appreciate this sort of things, even though the average CC buyer probably cares little about them. After all, the main reason why they purchase a car like the Eos is neither performance nor ride comfort. No, it's primarily being able to drive on hot summer days with nothing but the sun over their heads and wind in their hair.
