Due to the relatively-flat beltline and sizeable glass area, the Rabbit offers satisfying lateral visibility, which makes parking manoeuvres easier. That being said, larger outside mirrors would be appreciated.

Versatile, but not cheap!
Adults can actually sit in the back of this small hatchback. Moreover, carrying large or cumbersome items like a bicycle is ridiculously easy. Simply fold the 60/40-split rear seatbacks down. Even with the front buckets in their rearmost position, you don’t have to remove the headrests, so there’s no risk of mislaying them.

The Sport package includes bi-xenon headlights which markedly improve visibility and safety at night.

What you get then is a wide, almost flat cargo floor. In addition, the liftgate creates a vast opening and the 7.5-centimeter high entry step poses no real challenge when loading heavy objects.

At the end of the day, it’s hard to find fault with the 2009 Volkswagen Rabbit, except for pricing of course. An automatic-equipped Comfortline Sport model with power sunroof starts just under $28,000, not counting freight and delivery charges plus applicable taxes, in which case the total rises above $30,000. The Wolfsburg faithful won’t be shy to admit it, though, seeing how they’re too busy enjoying the many benefits of their conversion.
