The identity crisis
The RL has a base price of $63,900, and this Elite test car costs $69,500. With a similar level of features and 6-cylinder engines, the Audi A6 3.0 TFSI quattro Premium, the BMW 535i xDrive, the Infiniti M37x, the Jaguar XF Premium Luxury, the Lexus GS 350 AWD, the Mercedes-Benz E350 4MATIC and the Volvo S80 T6 AWD all cost between 63K and 72K. The RL Elite is neither a bargain nor too expensive.

No question, the RL grows on you and is a marvellous luxury sedan. Whether the big Acura is worthy or not depends on how you consider a $70,000 car. If you need it to double as a status symbol, it might not shine as brightly as a Mercedes-Benz or even en Infiniti, since it’s in as much as in an identity crisis as the Acura brand itself. But if you choose a car egoistically, you can’t ask much more of the RL.

By the way, in Japan, it’s still called the Legend.
