Following closely on the heels of the A5, which was introduced as a 2008 model, 2009 brings us a cabriolet version of this beautifully executed touring coupe.
The fabric drop-top will feature Audi's Acoustic Roof Technology to ensure quiet roof-up driving dynamics. The use of a fabric roof reduces weight while allowing greater storage space when the sun is shining.
Three engine choices will enable consumers to be rather selective about powerplant options for their A5 Cabriolet. The offerings begin with a 2.0-litre turbocharged FSI direct injection 4-cylinder mill that generates 211 horsepower and 258 pound-feet of torque.
The next step in the performance ladder lands a 3.2-litre FSI direct injection V6 beneath the bonnet. This naturally aspirated powerplant develops 265 horsepower and 243 pound-feet of torque. The final step in the ladder again belongs to an FSI direct injection V6, this time displacing 3.0-litres.
Although its displacement is a touch less than the V6 below it, the 3.0-litre 'bad boy' is fortified with an inter-cooled supercharger. The extra hardware enables the production of 333 horsepower and 325 pound-feet of torque. 'S5' branding accompanies the muscular V6.
The base engine can be connected to Audi's FrontTrak front-wheel-drive system or if one chooses, Audi's quattro all-wheel-drive setup can be ordered. The two V6 mills are connected to Audi's quattro all-wheel-drive configuration.
Innovative A5 Cabriolet features include a head-level heating system and Audi's Drive Select technology, which enables the driver to select from three performance settings controlling throttle mapping and suspension calibration.
