You have tonnes of leg-room for both driver and passenger and you can even fit a set of golf clubs behind the seats. Having a mid-engine design, the only space for luggage is under the front hood – just enough space for 2 carry-on sized bags.
The transparent bay with LED lighting that houses the 4.2L V8 FSI engine is stunning to look at. Producing 317 lb-feet of torque with an impressive 430 horsepower this R8 is capable of getting from 0 to 100km/ h in just 4.0 seconds and it gives you a top speed of over 300km.
Looking for even more power and willing to spend an additional $29,000. Then you can get the Lamborghini sourced 5.2L V10 good for 525 horsepower. Just thinking about it is getting me excited and wondering when I may get my hands on that incredible machine.
A street-legal racecar in everything that it does, the hydraulically assisted rack-and-pinion steering delivers effortless response to every turn I take. In the city, I am aware of the size of this beast – long and such an uncompromisingly wide stance.
With such power at my fingertips, I am glad to know that even this Audi has the legendary Quattro all-wheel drive system. This particular version of Quattro system utilizes continuously variable torque distribution to deliver power to the wheels to get the best traction, with 85% favoring the rear, giving an incredible feeling of control at all speeds.
I had a chance to drive the R8 for a few days on a racetrack last year and I loved the R-tronic transmission. I was extremely impressed. And though it was unbelievable on the track - I actually enjoyed driving it through the city as well.
This week I have the 6-speed manual and I am extremely excited and yet a bit disappointed at the same time; this is the transmission that I would have loved to play with on the track.
Old school I know, but I really love the satisfaction I get when shifting myself, I feel so much more connected to the car. I will admit though, that I would take the R-tronic over the manual if this were my daily driver.
Driving this was extremely enjoyable for the first couple of days – but in a short while I grew tired of having to work so hard to go from first to second gear and back again while driving in stop and go traffic in the city.
