A little too polite?
Our Camaro is also equipped with the Rally Sport Package that adds exclusive taillights, flangeless 20-inch alloys and xenon headlights. The optional white stripes curiously cover the hood and trunklid but not the roof, yet with the car’s red paint, the result is a car that draws a lot of attention. The Camaro’s edgy styling based on the original 1967 model is a work of art.

Inside, the overall look is retro-chic, especially in the centre stack area.

Alas, once you step inside the Camaro, you’ll think that GM penned the exterior and told the interior design team to “live with it.” You sit low inside the car, and I must recline the seatback more than I usually do in order to be comfortable. Rear-seat occupants must endure the whole trip in a hunchback position.

The side windows are small and the every pillar is wide. You can’t see much when backing up because of the high decklid. Those are the sacrifices you have to make to keep the concept’s lines intact. This car badly needs a backup sensor or a camera.

The Camaro’s command center is a mix of good and bad. The overall look is retro-chic, especially in the centre stack area. The quartet of needle readouts (standard in 2LT and 2SS models) is reminiscent of the original 1967 car but aren’t particularly useful.

The climate control buttons aren’t very intuitive; you’ll probably get used to them after a while, but a week wasn’t enough for me. The steering wheel’s cone shape requires long thumbs to be grasped properly.

As for trunk space, it’s smaller than the Challenger’s and the Mustang’s, but what’s really unfortunate is the ridiculously small opening which complicates piling stuff in.

The Camaro 1SS has a base price of $37,065, but our leather-lined 2SS costs $41,430. Add the $1,380 RS Package, the $585 striping, the $1,195 sunroof and the $1,690 automatic/L99 V8, and the total invoice for the car you see here climbs to $46,280.

You can’t see much when backing up because of the high decklid.
