That’s getting a little expensive. For about the same money, you could get a base Porsche Cayenne or a loaded Volkswagen Touareg, both better-finished and as capable off road, or a loaded Lincoln MKT EcoBoost, which is a little quicker and doesn’t feel as though environmentalists will be on your case as much.
If a Commander is your cup of tea, though, I would suggest opting for the Sport trim with the HEMI engine, which retails for a fairly more reasonable $45,245.
As much as I like the Jeep Commander’s ride and powerful engine, it feels older than its 2006 model-year launch might suggest; of course, it virtually hasn’t changed since then, and it’s not a big seller, which makes me wonder if there is a future for this seven-passenger SUV. I’ll assume there are plenty of Hummer owners that will eventually need new wheels, so the Commander still has potential.
