Top goes down... fast!
The power-retractable hardtop of the Lexus IS C is a three-piece, articulated unit made of aluminum. Developed by Toyota engineers, it completely stows away in a class-leading 20 seconds.
In the event where the driver does not leave enough space behind the car for the roof to come down (the trunk lid lifts up in an overhanging position), the available parking assist system calculates rear clearance and can even stop the opening/folding operation if there's not enough room to execute it.
What's more, to make access easier for rear occupants (preferably short people like children), the doors are a whopping 30-centimeter longer than those of the IS sedan. Their hinges are stronger and feature three safeties for more convenient entry/exit in tight spaces or on hills.
Further helping rear passengers is a one-touch walk-in system in which the front seatbacks tilt while the seats slide forward and return to the desired position (not necessarily their initial position) at the touch of a button mounted on each front seat.
Distinct silhouette
The new IS C stands out from the IS sedans with a specific stern. The shape of the trunk lid and integrated rear spoiler as well as the layout of the exhaust tips and taillight clusters are among the attributes that help define the coupe-convertible's unique design.
Speaking of the taillights, they use 164 light-emitting diodes (LED) to illuminate the lenses at night. The center brake light boasts an extra 24 LEDs for a striking visual effect when braking.
Maximized comfort
With the top in place, the interior of the Lexus IS C proves to be as quiet as the regular sedan's. Moreover, the automaker insists that not a single water drop will infiltrate the cabin or trunk when it's raining. Meanwhile, some Pontiac Solstice owners continue to get wet...
