Powertrains will be the same as what's found in the IS sedan. The IS 250 C gets a 2.5-litre V6 that develops 204 horsepower and 185 lb-ft of torque, while the IS 350 C boasts a 3.5-litre V6 that produces 306 hp and 277 lb-ft. The suspension has been revised to ensure that the IS' ride quality and handling remains about the same.
The IS C will compete with luxury rivals such as the Audi A4, the BMW 3-Series, the Saab 9-3, the Volkswagen Eos and the Volvo V70. Newcomers will also eventually turn up, like the Audi A5 and Infiniti G37.
Look for the new Lexus droptop in the spring of 2009. Pricing has not yet been announced, but we'll guess that the IS 250 C will start slightly below $40,000, while the IS 350 C will cost a little less than $50,000.
