Practical luxury
Partnered with the power boost is a new six-speed automatic transmission that elicits the best from the Lexus powerplant. This duo work harmoniously together in propelling the mid-size crossover with startling athleticism.

The 3.5-litre 24-valve DOHC V6 engine produces more punch for 2010.

Power is instantly conjured-up and directed to all four corners to ensure rapid spin-free acceleration in both wet and dry weather conditions. Passing performance is impressive with plentiful pull on-tap whenever needed.

A definite highlight of the Lexus mill is its refined operation and unobtrusive performance unless under full acceleration, when it emits a delightful muted growl.

Handling not sacrificed for ride quality
It’s a Lexus, so a highly controlled comfortable ride is a given. That said, the RX 350 is no bag of marshmallows on the road. In fact, those expecting to float atop a cloud may want to drift elsewhere.

The RX 350 retains sufficiently firm underpinnings to deliver surprisingly favourable handling and cornering responses. In short, Lexus has maximized both ride comfort and handling prowess in their mid-size crossover without notably compromising either dynamic.

The agreeable on-road attributes of my tester were pleasantly complemented by low levels of wind and road noise along with an outstanding 12-speaker Mark Levinson audio system that was part of the RX 350’s Touring Package.

Behind the wheel
The 2010 RX 350 is a superb crossover to spend time with, dispatching kilometre after kilometre of flawless highway or winding back roads. Seating is tremendously comfortable, and the driving position broadly adjustable.

Steering feedback is typical of the crossover market, which is to say that it’s on the numb side but nicely weighted just the same. Overall, the RX 350 imparts a sense of substance and size that seem to exceed its true dimensions - but in a good way.

RX 350 wrap
My perfect real-world vehicle is well represented by the RX 350 in how effectively it combines luxury and elegance with SUV practicality. This is a roomy ride that’s ski-hill-capable and rewarding to drive.

Lexus has maximized both ride comfort and handling prowess in their mid-size crossover without notably compromising either dynamic.
