I briefly touched on the responsive steering of my tester, however, this vehicle deserves greater comment in regard to its handling capability and absorbent ride quality, both of which are notable. The E 350 Coupe is fitted with Mercedes-Benz’s Dynamic Handling Package with driver-selectable Sport or Comfort suspension settings.
I never found it necessary to engage the Sport mode, as it stiffened the underpinnings without adding, in my view, any real handling benefit short of that needed on a track. The Comfort setting allowed the car to gracefully absorb the city’s worst while staying firmly affixed to unsettled pavement during phases of spirited maneuvering.
A Coupe wrapped-up
The new E-Class Coupe builds on a rich history of E-Class Coupes dating back to 1967. Today’s version is fresh, modern and distinctive. Along with inspiring performance, it adheres to the true “coupe” concept with the abolishment of B-pillars.
With its many attributes, the E 350 Coupe starts at $59,900 in Canada—which incidentally is the same stepping-off point for the Audi S5 Coupe (A5 is $46,200). Add a few option packages to the E 350 C and north of $70K arrives quickly.
That kind of green opens plenty of other premium doors in the sports coupe segment, including BMW’s 3-Series Coupe and Cadillac’s new CTS Coupe, both of which bear MSRPs significantly below that of the Merc.
