Some new hardware
This light-duty truck — the first in its class to ride on a multilink coil spring rear suspension — boasts a number of technical upgrades for 2010. Some of the most notable include available power folding and heated mirrors for easier towing manoeuvres, integrated Trailer Brake Control (with Class IV hitch) and giant 22-inch wheels (R/T Regular Cab 2x4).

On the safety front, the Ram once again features All-Speed Traction Control, Electronic Stability Program (ESP), ABS brakes, side curtain airbags, Hill Start Assist and Trailer Sway Control. Incidentally, most domestic and Japanese rivals offer similar equipment.

Unique RamBox system
Crew Cab models are available with a decidedly unique storage solution called RamBox. Two weatherproof, lockable, drainable, lighted storage bins are integrated into the bed rail (one on each side). Together, they provide 210 litres of additional cargo room for your tools or sports gear. The package also includes a bed divider/extender and built-in cargo tie-downs.

With regard to the drivetrain, the company still offers the classic 4x4 system with electronic transfer case that engages even on the go. Laramie and Sport models, meanwhile, receive a part-time 4WD system that may not be the formidable workhorse the other system is but still features low-range gearing for off-road treks.

A few tweaks inside
While interior styling hasn’t changed either, the cabin will now appeal to younger drivers thanks to MP3 compatibility and an auxiliary input jack. An electrochromic (auto-dimming) rearview mirror is available, too.

V6-powered models get a new Fuel Saver Indicator. Additionally, a ParkView backup camera can be optioned to serve as a guardian angel during parking manœuvres.

The Canadian sales king
Here’s a surprising piece of information: so far in 2010, sales of the Ram pickup truck are up by nearly 80 percent! Chrysler’s debacle and its takeover by Fiat clearly haven’t scared buyers away, at least north of the border. Down south, Ram is reporting a 26-percent drop over the same period.
