An authentic SUV
To create the Sport-tech version, Subaru has added a U-series Pioneer AVIC system, which combines a sophisticated stereo (iPod, USB and Bluetooth compatible) with a removable touch-screen navigation unit.

Lastly, the Forester Sport-tech has traded in the 16-inch aluminum alloy wheels of the Touring package for the 17-inch wheels of the Forester 2.5XT Turbo.

And there you have it.

Much appreciated practicality
If you disregard this equipment, you see the good old Forester we know and love. It’s an eminently spacious SUV that can comfortably accommodate four adults (contrary to the old model, which was more of the 2 adults + 2 children variety).

And of course, the very nature of this vehicle is versatile. The usable cargo space of its flexible trunk is among the largest of the class, after the reining champions, the Toyota RAV4 and Honda CR-V. The very light hatch uncovers a large opening and a low floor with no annoying sill. What’s more, the 60/40 split rear seats fold down in a cinch and create an even loading platform.

The cargo curtain is noticeably absent though, an essential accessory in hiding the contents of the trunk from prying eyes. You have to shell out a ridiculous premium (a little over $100) to secure it – or haggle with the dealer to get it for free.

Well-known engine
Like the other Forester 2.5Xs, the Sport-tech variant is motivated by the naturally aspirated version of the 2.5-litre, 4-cylinder Boxer engine, kicking out 170 ponies and just as much torque. It’s coupled with one of the few manual transmissions in the class.
