Touareg TDI eats mud, sips diesel
Touareg TDI + Dirt = :-)
All that torque makes the Touareg well suited to off-roading and towing-- with on-demand wheelspin on constant standby to escape muddy ruts or deep sand. A low-range transfer case puts extra torque and traction to work with the twist of a knob, too.

It might be environmentally sensitive, but the Touareg TDI isn’t some sissy hybrid green-ute. Don’t let its 20-inch wheels and chrome grille fool you: this machine is actually engineered for some serious all-terrain utility.

A price-defying cabin?

Of course, despite the hardware, all that high-class Volkswagen Touareggy stuff is going on as well. The cabin is exceptionally rich, lined with stitched leather, contrasting colours and plenty of chrome accents. Most everything inside looks and feels beautiful, and passengers unfamiliar with Touareg pricing will guess the sticker about $15,000 too high after an initial tactile and visual inspection.

Extra points for the sexy instrument cluster with full colour driver computer, the beefy centre console, the abundance of power outlets and the hair-tickling Dynaudio stereo system. The latter is ideal for flooding an entire intersection or campsite with concert-quality tunes, if you’re so inclined.

‘This is a diesel?!”
Further impressiveness comes from the TDI engine’s near-silent operation, generous low-end torque and smooth-as-glass transmission. In fact, at full throttle, the Touareg TDI sails along on a wave of torque while sending barely a peep into the cabin. The noise from the beefed-up gears whining within the transmission is often louder than the engine itself, if somewhat intrusive.
