My tester was also equipped with Adaptive Drive, which offers several driver-selectable settings ranging from Comfort to Sport+. Each setting incrementally increases the vehicle’s responsiveness by altering chassis and engine/transmission dynamics.
Frankly, I was happy to exploit the Comfort setting. The 550i GT is a remarkably quiet vehicle. The inherent serenity nicely complemented the highly absorbent ride quality of the Comfort setting with little deterioration in day-to-day handling needs.
To GT or not to GT
Would I, if I were in the market, select the GT version of BMW’s 5-Series or its more common sedan variant? Tough question. Despite the sedan’s many virtues and its clear dominance in appearance, the GT fits better with my lifestyle and usage needs.
So there you have it, I’d tick the GT box and keep an open mind every time my eyes fell upon that awkward side profile.
