New for 2011
Don't get me wrong, I was delighted with this particular Camaro's muscle. However, the top-of-the-line SS is so much brawnier.
The 2011 model receives minor upgrades to further capture the imagination of muscle car enthusiasts. The VVT-equipped V6 now produces 312 horsepower (+8), allowing the 1,700-kg Camaro to sprint from 0 to 100 km/h in less than 7 seconds. Just hammer the throttle and – Bam! Of course, you have to find the appropriate time and place to enjoy the exhilaration that comes with it, and I'm not so sure our over-regulated, over-crowded public road network is the answer.
On a side note, the same engine can be found in the Buick LaCrosse, except that the Camaro's features direct fuel injection to maximize performance.
Other refined additions to the new model include Head-Up Display, which is standard in 2LT and 2SS trim only. Too bad. This innovative system projects relevant information onto the windshield, such as vehicle speed, engine speed, selected gear, outside temperature, etc. The driver can therefore access this data while keeping an eye on the road in the background.
Fans will also appreciate the fact that Synergy Green Metallic paint is now available with every trim level... for a limited time, though. 2LT and 2SS models even add colour-coordinated dashboard and door panels!
Finally, all 2011 Camaros come with OnStar and a 6-month subscription to the Directions & Connections Plan with Turn-by-Turn Navigation.
Behind the wheel
Sitting behind the wheel of this baby will bring elation to any driver. The long, low-slung body, massive alloys, endless hood, cocoon-like driving cockpit and highly-bolstered bucket seats all combine to make you feel at one with the machine.
The tilt and telescopic steering wheel naturally contributes to this pleasant feeling, too. And here's another luxurious amenity the Camaros of yesteryear didn't have: heated seats. Once again, it's a shame they're exclusive to 2LT and 2SS models!
