Slick look and a surprisingly potent V6
A strange gripe
This writer’s biggest complaint dealt with the engine. Though it turns the Avenger into a tire-frying menace to society on command, it’s simply too darn quiet. There’s no aggressive wail, no snorty exhaust sound effects, and no deep roar from the intake. Aurally, the opened-up Pentastar just emits a mild hum overlapped by the sound of rapidly spinning accessory belts and camshafts.

Those after some ferocity in the sound department can have their tech-savvy butler add intake and exhaust modifications to taste. Those prioritizing a relaxing, quiet driving experience will find no issue.

Other complaints include hefty torque steer (fire up those superhero forearms), and the lack of a trunk-closer handle. You’ll smudge the outside of the trunk lid with your fingertips every time you close it.

Youthful, fun, expressive
Ultimately, the main draws to this machine (superhero or not) will be its styling, newly-updated interior and exterior looks, and a good dose of value for the money. Oh, and the delightfully fun, expressive and youthful character you won’t find in the Malibu, Accord or Camry, which encompass the potent V6 engine and associated tire-melting shenanigans—if you’re so inclined.

If that sounds like your thing, be sure to give the latest Avenger a test drive. Just be careful not to close the door on your cape.
