The Return of the Holy Trinity
From an engine mapping standpoint, note that the mill also consumes about 5% less fuel compared to the outgoing version. Ford’s new transmission undoubtedly plays a part here. The herd of ponies is now dispatched to the rear wheels by way of a 6-speed, rather than 5-speed, transmission, either manual or automatic (the latter being of course optional).

What’s more, in a sign of the times the Mustang GT now features electric power steering. Thankfully nothing is lost on the deal, and the GT retains its undeniable precision, an essential part of the sporty nature expected of this car.

Braking prowess
The Mustang GT sports four wheel disc brakes (ventilated up front) that are suitable for city driving. However, the automaker also offers an optional high-performance brake kit (upwards of $1,700) that better meets the demands of the discerning driving enthusiast with their superior endurance.

Offered exclusively on the manual Mustang GT, the kit includes 14-inch ventilated front Brembo rotors with four-piston callipers and 11.8-inch rear rotors with dual-piston callipers. A sport version of the AdvanceTrac electronic stability control system is also thrown in, as well as a stiffer suspension and 19-inch performance tires mounted on elegant alloy wheels painted to resemble dark stainless steel. Also found on the Shelby GT500, this is one gutsy ensemble.

On the road, it stands out by the harsh stiffness of the suspension. High performance is of course the priority here, and not comfort. But that’s a choice you have to make with this GT, an inescapable tenet if you will. And if you can’t handle it, don’t even set foot in a Ford dealership. This is not the altar for you!
