Overall, driving the CX-7 GT is satisfactory thanks to strong positive brakes and responsive, well-judged steering. In true Mazda style, the CX-7's 2.9 turns lock-to-lock provide sporty and communicative feedback.
Although the CX-7 competently carries itself, its performance is betrayed by its hefty thirst for fuel. In this test, I averaged 12.5L/100km in mixed driving conditions. Even though the 2.3L's muscle will put a smile on more than one driver's face, the frequent and expensive (especially if you choose to get the most out of your 2.3T by feeding it premium juice) stops at the pumps may quickly turn that smile upside down.
The CX-7 is a proper sport-utility crossover if ever there was such a thing. If you're not entirely certain about the CX-7, but like Mazda's philosophy (I understand), they've got a 2013 CX-5 coming down the pipeline which may do the trick on many levels.
