My tester featured the 6-speed manual 'box and FWD. The only issue with torque on the front wheels is, well, torque steer. Despite the Juke's stability control and other measures, the little bullfrog will have you holding down the steering wheel with both hands after a launch. No matter though 'cause the rest is pure fun.
The Juke is very light, nimble and promotes active driving, a far too rare characteristic in many of today's cars. Crosswinds can be an issue given the vehicle's stature and weight, but otherwise, it will munch kilometre after kilometre of road all the while consuming no more than 9L of fuel per 100 km.
At one point, Symphony of Destruction by Megadeth was blasting through the six speakers and I was jazzed... at the wheel of a Juke going way too fast, acting as though I was blasting around in a GT-R. Good times.
Destined to be forgotten?
I hope to Hell not, but given Nissan's recent track record, it just might be. When was the last time you noticed a cube on the road?
This is really too bad, as both vehicles have their merits and warrant more attention than they are getting. Fact is, though, their niches are tiny.
For comparison’s sake, and I wasn't going to do this, but the Acura ZDX's design and cause are reminiscent of the Juke's and its sales have been nothing less than dismal since its introduction. I do hope this will not be the case... Have I mentioned this before?
Anyhow, the Juke deserves a test drive and Nissan needs to inspire all of its future products on reproducing the special feeling one gets when in the Juke and the cube.
