The interior is everything you’d expect from a luxury vehicle. Good quality leather seating, leather-clad steering wheel (with a nice grip), 9-speaker Bose stereo system with incredible sound quality.

The bucket seats are wide but offer excellent side support. The clean, uncluttered dash makes it easy to locate and use the various controls. An imposing 7-inch multipurpose colour screen is front and centre. A true information centre, it displays the navigation map (optional), the image caught by the rear-view camera when in reverse or info on the current musical selection (from the radio, an iPod, the integrated 2-Gb Flash drive or the optional 9.6-Gb hard drive).

The rear seats are very inviting thanks to their form-fitting backs. (Photo: Luc Gagné/Auto123.com)

The front seats are heated – naturally. They can also be ventilated on request. The rear seats have very form-fitting backs and are quite inviting for two people. There’s room for a third, but only a small child will be comfortable.

The loading capacity of the trunk is slightly superior to that of the Infiniti G37 (402 vs. 382 litres). That doesn’t mean it’s more practical though: the opening is short and narrow and the sill is rather high. Intrusive wheel wells also chip away at trunk space. Thankfully, the 60/40 split seats can fold down, allowing you to expand the trunk.

Other than that, the Maxima has enough positive attributes to make it a desirable ride. If the luxury car shopper remembers to add it to his or her list, that is. That being said, the Maxima has an undeniable advantage over its Asian and European rivals. If you’re so inclined, you’ll no doubt be able to negotiate a better deal than you would with other models. After all, it’s not like Maxima buyers are storming Nissan’s gates!
