I found the pedal response in my tester to be excessively sensitive at the initial application of the brakes. Greater fluidity was achieved followed an adaptation period behind the wheel, yet braking never felt fully reassuring or predictable, as I suspect Porsche would like it to be.
Wrapping the Cayenne S Hybrid
There are a lot of attributes to admire and enjoy about the hybrid-powered 2011 Cayenne S; I’m not sure that high-performance driving is one of them. Yes, there’s no doubt that the Cayenne S Hybrid can shine in the performance department, but it doesn’t shine quite as brightly as a conventional Cayenne in that respect.
If one’s list of SUV priorities is headed by a need for high-end performance, there are other Cayenne models that fit the bill better than the S Hybrid. If however, eco concerns and cutting-edge technology rank high on the list, the S Hybrid could be the perfect match.
It provides plenty of driving pleasure and noteworthy efficiency, whether tooling about town or embracing a twisty road through the mountains, but, there’s a lot going on technology-wise which tends to undermine the visceral, connected feeling one derives from a more conventional Porsche powertrain.
All in all, the 2011 Cayenne S Hybrid is a pretty cool Porsche that introduces a legitimate, viable eco-alternative to the conventional Cayenne lineup.
