A mature choice?
If rivals Buick Lucerne and Ford Taurus feature bigger trunks (481 and 569 litres, respectively), it may be due to their longer bodies…

The 3.5-litre V6 launches the Avalon from 0 to 100 km/h in under 7 seconds. That’s quick. Way too quick. (Photo: Matthieu Lambert/Auto123.com)

Driving Miss Daisy
On the road, the Avalon is like driving your living room. Its rather soft suspension screens out all road imperfections. Though this comfort comes at a price, i.e., pronounced rolling in corners.

And the light power steering also requires frequent trajectory corrections on the highway. What’s more, the small-diameter, braided steering wheel doesn’t put you in a sporty frame of mind. On the contrary, it looks like it was borrowed from Morgan Freeman’s Hudson in Driving Miss Daisy. And he wasn’t exactly tearing up the road.

And yet, under the hood a stampede of 268 ponies is just begging to be unleashed, raring to catapult the Avalon from 0 to 100 in 6.5 seconds! We timed it not once, but twice. A 304-hp, V6 Chevy Camaro can hardly do better. Simply incredible.
