Stability and stance are enhanced smartly by the 15-mm lower ride height. To you and me, this makes the GTI look “tuned” but to the average driver, it changes little or nothing. Ride comfort remains high, as does all around driveability.

You might be asking yourself why Volkswagen and Auto123.com are telling you about the GTI Edition 35, given that we'z North Americans will not be getting the car. It's simple, really: As of next spring, April 2012 to be exact, we WILL finally get an R. Yes, the ultimate incarnation of the Golf that the Americans have known about and driven for the last two generations of the car.

The 35 is not ours to have, but it does demonstrate that little needs to be done to our excellent GTI to make it even greater. It also tells me that the R will elevate the GTI to a whole other level when it gets here. This car's chassis and build make it a prime candidate and canvas for any type of personal touches, either to make it faster or phatter.
