Now that the redesigned 6 Series Cabriolet has arrived, BMW is about to launch the coupe version of their luxury grand touring machine.

The new 6 Series Coupé will be offered in three variations in Europe. The 640d gets a turbodiesel 3.0-litre inline-6 that develops 308 horsepower and 465 pound-feet of torque; the 640i uses a twin-turbo 3.0-litre six with 315 horsepower and 332 lb-ft; as for the 650i, it benefits from a twin-turbo, 4.4-litre V8 that generates 400 horsepower and 450 lb-ft. Every engine is paired with an 8-speed automatic transmission with manual mode.

As with the Cabriolet, US and Canadian markets might only receive the 650i, although the Coupé will be available with the brand’s xDrive all-wheel traction system, a first for the 6 Series.

Compared to the last-gen 6 Series, the 2012 Coupé sports a wheelbase stretched by 75 mm (almost 3 inches), increasing rear-seat legroom. The new car is also wider and fractionally lower.

According to BMW, the 6 Series Coupé will be packed with standard or optional goodies such as electric power steering, Integral Active Steering, Driving Experience Control, Dynamic Damper Control, Adaptive Drive, adaptive LED headlights, BMW ConnectedDrive, Head-up display, Active Cruise Control with Stop & Go function, lane-change warning, lane-departure warning, rearview camera, Surround View, Speed Limit info (Europe), Night Vision, Parking Assistant, active seats, Nappa leather, ceramic applications and a Bang & Olufsen surround sound system.
