Comparo 2.0: The best of the weekend track-hero cars
2- 2013 Subaru BRZ

As far as track-focused road cars are concerned, the BRZ is just about the best there is. Everything about the car screams smart, fast and challenge-ready.

Beneath the handsome skin sits a car that is focused beyond most cars any of us have ever driven. Even so, the BRZ is as docile as a kitten, but can break out its claws at the first sign of an upcoming apex.

Progressive is the best way to describe this car's abilities. There is nothing harsh about this car's nature. More precisely, its linear behavior allows the driver to exploit more of it without fear of reprimand from the suspension or a kick in the pants from boost.

Driving the 2013 Subaru BRZ hard requires no special attention or state of mind. So long as the pilot's eyes are fixed well ahead, the car will obey every command. This car really is that good. The brakes demonstrate resolve, steering communicates every last detail and the engine will happily rev all the way to its 7,400 rpm redline all day, every day.

Its suspension tuning is down a notch from the FR-S, from CTCC-ready to regular track use. Even so, we can think of few other cars than those already mentioned that could ever hope to compete with it in a track setting.

No one complained about the lack of all-out power, but everyone thought the car could be better served with a few more ponies. Despite that, the pace kept by the BRZ on a track such as ASE, one with no or few long straights, is difficult to match. The ability to be consistent with this car is striking.

As far as the cockpit goes, both the Scion and Subaru's snug passenger quarters are dedicated to driving where all necessary elements for maximum control fall into place.
