The Accent Hyundai presented at this year's Montreal Auto Show took everyone by surprise, a completely redesigned and frankly great product, both from an aesthetic and mechanical point of view.

With all these changes, industry observers were expecting a slight increase in price. Thankfully for Canadian consumers that won't be the case - in fact, the Accent will be even cheaper than before.

The sedan will come with a $13,199 price tag. That's $1,100 less than the 2011 model, and the new incarnation will boast a full $1,500 worth of extra equipment. The hatchback will go for $13,599, the exact same price as now but with $1,440 worth of extra gear.

The entry-level L will feature a six-speed transmission, a trip computer, power locks, six airbags, stability and traction control, an AM/FM/CD/MP3 system with four speakers and iPod/USB/AUX ports as well as four-wheel disc brakes.

The GL will add air conditioning, cruise control, power windows, heated rear-view mirrors and steering wheel mounted audio controls.

Finally, the GLS will include all of the above, plus a sunroof, 172-watt, 6-speaker stereo system, heated front seats, 16-inch wheels and Bluetooth.

The Accent will be powered by a 1.6-litre, direct injection mill generating 138 hp and 123 lb-ft of torque. The transmission and 0.3 drag coefficient will enable a highway fuel economy rating of 4.8L / 100 km.
