Taking it to Honda
Hyundai, and we've said many times before, is poised to knock the socks off most if not all of its competition. It would seem that more models is never enough for the huge Korean manufacturer.

The current Elantra has made quite the splash in the 8 or so months since its arrival. Selling like hotcakes and on everyone’s shopping list, the time could not be more ripe for the introduction a new Elantra, the 2-door coupé.

This is what we mean by taking it to Honda. Other than the Elantra's cousin, the Kia Forte Koup, the Civic coupe is the only other 2-door compact offering. On its' own and given the tough times, the Civic will have its work cut out for it, trying to stay afloat, above the Koreans.

What won't help Honda's situation is the fact that not only do we expect the new Elantra Coupé to undercut the Civic price-wise but it will be more powerful and just as economical.

Base engine will be the same 148hp 1.8L 4-pot (bests base Civic) from the sedan. An Elantra R-Spec is also expected and it should be powered by the 208hp turbocharged 1.6L 4 (better than new Si) from the upcoming Veloster. Yeah, the Veloster... We wrote about the onslaught of compact sporty cars from Hyundai months ago.

Can you see where this is going? Hyundai will have a 2-door coupé, a 3.5ish-door hatchback and a 4-door sedan. Two of them will have performance versions and all will be cool and feature-packed and a good deal.
